Exploring text data: New methods in statistics and CS, and applications to political economy - TIRIS Workshop

December 19, 2024 - 2pm-5.30pm - Auditorium A5

December 19, 2024, 14:00–17:30

Auditorium 5

Context and objectives

The project "Text-mining and new measurement strategies in political economy" was selected in 2024 by TIRIS (Toulouse Initiative Research's Impact on Society) as of its interdisciplinary research projects. Situated at the intersection of computer science, quantitative political economy and mathematics, it aims to use recent advances in complex and large data processing- in particular text mining and large language models- to propose new measures of public opinion and political polarisation. (Read more about this project).

As a kick-off event the reseach team, which brings together researchers from IMT (Institut de Mathématique de Toulouse), IRIT (Institut de Recherche in Informatique de Toulouse) and TSE Toulouse School of Economics), is organizing a workshop at TSE on 19 December 2024 from 14:00 to 17:30.

During this workshop, we will present the objectives of the project as well as some ongoing work and challenges.
We cordially invite all researchers and students from IAST, IMT, IRIT, TSE and the wider scientific community in Toulouse to attend this workshop. You are very welcome to attend all or part of the workshop. Part of the afternoon will be dedicated to a general discussion with the audience.
